They contacted a local ryokan directly with the idea of having their guests spend time there. The ryokan told themno specialized wedding staff, so they were introduced to a hot spring wedding production company.
Since most of the guests were from their hometowns, they initially wondered if everyone would stay overnight. However, they were pleasantly surprised to find that almost all of their guests stayed overnight in response to their invitations. Being invited to a hot spring wedding where guests could also stay overnight was appreciated by guests living in the local hot spring resort, and they were able to relax and spend time together until morning.

Comments from Onsen Wedding
They had originally planned to hold their wedding in June 2020, but decided to postpone it to December of the same year in light of the extended period of the state of emergency declaration in May and the spread of the infection nationwide. The decision was also based on the situation that approximately 30% of the guests were from outside the prefecture, as many were still waiting to see how the local wedding would go amid the spread of the infection, especially in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
Even after the date was decided in December, both parents were somewhat concerned about the reception itself with a large group of invited friends, so we changed the reception venue to a flower folding screen-like decoration to prevent splashes and create a gorgeous venue. The ryokan had taken sufficient measures to prevent infection, so the guests were able to spend the day in peace.
The December wedding timing was also when GoTo Travel nationwide began to move in, making it convenient for out-of-state guests to stay overnight before the wedding and travel to the hotel. In conjunction with this timing, the use of the on-site club became available, so we were able to rent out the club for an after-party after the reception and enjoy it with our guests.
